Children who have become innocent victims of child abuse – sexual, physical or emotional – need our help! The mission of the CAC is to lesson additional trauma to these children.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and National Sexual Assault Prevention Month, which means this month recognizes the important work that we do at the Children’s Advocacy Center to help these children.
The Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) utilizes a multi-disciplinary agency team approach that provides forensic interviews to children from all over Los Angeles County who may have been abused either physically or sexually or children who have witnessed violence and offers referrals for services. Professionals in this multi-disciplinary team (MDT) include prosecutors, forensic interviewers, law enforcement officers, mental health professionals, medical personnel, victim advocates, and DCFS social workers. Last year, we assisted over 440 children and their families, an increase of almost 15% over 2015!
Our center is located in a large “home-like” facility in Covina, which is a safe, child-friendly and comfortable center, located in a peaceful, idyllic, park-like setting on the grounds of the Masonic Home in Covina. We have also integrated a program utilizing therapy dogs to further minimize additional trauma and assist children and non-offending family members in collaboration with Pet Prescription Team. The CAC is fully accredited through the National Children’s Alliance.
Unfortunately, there are many more children that we need to be able to serve throughout LA County and surrounding communities. But, that takes money and additional support! Fortunately, our center can and will provide those services with your help.
One of our goals is to be able to help at least 500 children this year.
However, in order to serve more children, it will take more staff and resources. Child abuse is in every community – all of these kids deserve and need to be given the skilled and compassionate services our CAC provides. Will you help us do that for these children?
