On September 28, the Children’s Advocacy Center celebrated 13 years of serving child victims and their families at our “Be a Hero for Children” Gala. The event was held just outside of the CAC on the grounds of the Masonic Home. Sparkling lights overhead, relaxing music by Them Kool Kats and delicious food from Oasis Grill created a wonderful atmosphere for over 200 who attended. Desserts were generously donated by Batch Brownies and BJ’s Restaurant Brewhouse. Sid Garcia, reporter from ABC7 Eyewitness News was our Master of Ceremonies.
We honored two Super Heroes for the amazing work helping and protecting children who have been abused. Deputy District Attorney Pak Kouch was honored for amazing leadership of the Complex Child Abuse Section of the District Attorney’s Office which specializes in prosecuting suspected abusive head trauma in children. The Masonic Homes of California was honored for the amazing work assisting children and the consistent dedication and partnership that allows the CAC to provide services on their tranquil grounds.
There were over 70 silent auction items, as well as exciting live auction items, which all raised money to support the programs to minimize trauma to children who have been abused. Throughout the evening, guests toured the CAC and the Masonic Center for Youth and Families, which provides mental health services.
We especially wish to thank our sponsors: Barthold Family Foundation, Trial Lawyers Charities, Forensic Nurse Specialists, California Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio, Taylor & Ring, John Pomroy & Kathy Cady, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, El Monte Police Officers Association, Association of Deputy District Attorneys, Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey, Athens Services, Ralph Shapira and the Masonic Center for Youth and Families. Special thanks to all who donated auction items and underwrote the costs of the Gala. We also wish to thank all our multi-disciplinary team members, community partners, staff and volunteers. We could not do this work without each and every one of you.
